Chris Kania

Trustee

Chris is a senior leader in the UK criminal justice and third sector, with over 20 years’ experience, including 14 years in senior leadership roles across probation and the charity sector.

He is currently Director of Criminal Justice Services at Hestia, where he leads a multi-service portfolio delivering accommodation and resettlement support to individuals with convictions across London. He has extensive experience designing and delivering trauma-informed services that support rehabilitation and reduce reoffending, while maintaining strong commercial and financial discipline.

Chris began his career as a Probation Officer in inner-city Manchester, specialising in the transition of young adults aged 18–21. He later managed the Circles of Support Project, a third-sector initiative supporting the rehabilitation and resettlement of people convicted of high-risk sexual offences through positive social modelling, community support and reducing isolation.

He went on to spend three years as a Senior Probation Officer in Tower Hamlets, managing a large team and chairing MAPPA Level 2 meetings for the borough, coordinating multi-agency responses to complex cases involving individuals assessed as posing a high or very high risk.

In 2021, Chris moved fully into the charity sector, initially as an Area Manager for Approved Premises before progressing to Director of Operations in 2023. His experience includes managing Ministry of Justice and Local Authority contracts, with responsibility for budgets, performance, risk management and service delivery. He also has extensive experience in governance and Board reporting, with a strong focus on transparency, accountability and demonstrating impact.

Throughout his career, Chris has remained passionate about rehabilitation and creating the conditions in which individuals with convictions can move forward successfully. He is particularly interested in developing innovative and sustainable services that balance meaningful social impact with financial viability.

Chris is also passionate about LGBTQI+ rights and is Hestia’s EDI Co-Chair in this area, helping to drive organisational change and develop policies that champion equity in the workplace.

Outside of work, Chris has a passion for film, music and writing, and is currently working on his first semi-autobiographical novel.
