We’re Hiring: Trustee (Income Generation)
Finding Rhythms uses music as a catalyst to empower people to improve their lives. We deliver creative projects in prisons and in the community, supporting people at risk of offending to rebuild confidence, strengthen belonging, and shift how they see themselves.
We are looking for a Trustee with expertise in income generation, particularly major donor fundraising and corporate partnerships, to help shape our long-term fundraising strategy and support our next phase of growth.
Your experience will help us build sustainable income streams and deepen relationships with existing and prospective supporters and partners. In doing so, you’ll help us create life-changing opportunities for more people who need it most.
About Finding Rhythms
Working with professional musicians, participants of our programmes write, record and release original music — often sharing their stories for the first time. Alongside this creative work, participants also receive support to improve their employability, including the opportunity to gain a King’s Trust qualification.
Since 2013, we’ve worked with more than 1,300 people across over 35 prisons and within the community, helping participants build confidence, develop skills and create positive futures through music.
About the role
New Trustees at Finding Rhythms are recruited for their skills in a specific area to ensure we have expertise across every aspect of our work. Working with the Board and Executive Director, the Trustee (Income Generation) will provide specialist insight, guidance and constructive challenge as we develop and deliver our sustainable income generation strategy.
The Trustee will take a leading role in shaping the Finding Rhythms approach to major donor fundraising and corporate partnerships, helping to identify opportunities for growth and ensuring our fundraising activity aligns with our mission, values and long-term ambitions.
This is a strategic governance and leadership role rather than an operational fundraising position. The successful candidate will establish and chair an External Stakeholder Advisory Group to strengthen our networks, create new opportunities and increase support for Finding Rhythms. This will feed into a Board Fundraising sub-committee, which the new Trustee will also lead, providing strategic oversight of income generation. We are looking for someone who is willing to share their expertise, make introductions where appropriate, and act as an ambassador for the charity but there is no expectation that they will directly fundraise.
Most importantly, we are seeking a Trustee who shares our belief in the transformative power of music alongside holistic employability support and is excited to help secure the resources we need to grow our impact.
We’d love to find someone with:
• Significant experience of major donor fundraising and/or developing and managing corporate partnerships.
• Strategic understanding of income generation, fundraising growth and relationship management.
• Experience of income generation within the charity sector would be an advantage but is not essential.
• The confidence to contribute to Board discussions on a range of topics, challenge constructively and support strategic decision-making.
• The ability to use your networks, knowledge and experience to help strengthen our fundraising and income generation capability where appropriate.
• Experience of chairing committees, steering groups or senior stakeholder forums, or the confidence and leadership skills to establish and lead an External Stakeholder Advisory Group and a Board Fundraising sub-committee.
• A passion for creativity, equity and social change.

The commitment we’re asking for:
• Attend four Board meetings each year (typically held in Central London in the evening between 5-730pm).
• Chair the Board Fundraising sub-Committee, meeting approximately four times a year.
• Lead the development of an External Stakeholder Advisory Group and chair its meetings (anticipated to meet two to four times a year).
• Allow approximately 6–8 hours per month on average to prepare for meetings, provide strategic support to the Executive Director, and act as an ambassador for Finding Rhythms where appropriate.
• Occasional attendance at stakeholder events or live music showcases.
Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term, with the opportunity to serve two additional terms (maximum nine years).
Eligibility
Trustees are charity directors, so applicants must be eligible to serve as a Trustee under Charity Commission rules. This includes confirming you are not disqualified from acting as a Trustee under Charity Commission rules and, where applicable, that you are compliant with any relevant licence conditions.
