Robin Harris
Founder Patron
Robin Harris is a jazz musician, musical director, and founder of Finding Rhythms.
He began delivering creative music projects at HMP Wormwood Scrubs in 2005, where he quickly recognised that enabling prisoners to create their own music through reflection had a profound impact on their wellbeing and sense of identity. With support from Lloyds Bank Foundation, Robin brought together a team of professional musicians to collaborate with ten prisoners on Scrubs Sessions, a landmark album of original material. This project laid the foundations for what would become Finding Rhythms, officially established in 2012. From 2012 onwards, Robin drew on his extensive network of musicians to deliver over 100 projects across the UK, establishing multiple delivery partnerships within the criminal justice system and building on a highly successful model of intervention through recording and songwriting.
Robin’s work is underpinned by a strong commitment to social change. He graduated from University of Edinburgh with a degree in Philosophy, before completing a Master’s degree in Jazz Improvisation at Guildhall School of Music & Drama. His studies, combined with a deep sense of social responsibility, have helped shape a creative approach informed by collaboration, exploration, and social awareness through music.
Alongside his charitable work, Robin has built a successful and varied career in the music industry as a Musical Director across theatre, television, and live performance. His credits include work with Punchdrunk, La Machine, The X Factor, and Britain’s Got Talent. He has also composed music for numerous BBC productions and performed on platinum-selling recordings. He is the founder of the London Dance Orchestra and currently works as Musical Director at The Ritz London.
Robin has contributed to numerous radio interviews, podcasts, and discussions on the role of music in rehabilitation and social change, and is widely recognised for his work in this field. Having served as both Creative Director until 2024 and Trustee of Finding Rhythms, he has recently stepped down from the Board and now continues his involvement as Founder Patron, remaining a passionate advocate for its mission.
