New Year, New News…
2016 is here! And what a great start to year it has been so far….
Recap of the last months of 2015: We started a new project at HMP Bronzefield, making it our first project within a women’s prison; we had incredible live sketches from Spike Zephaniah; our first music video; our first employee (Meee) and what a transformational experience it has been for me since joining the team….The coexistence of work and my personal journey! Loving it!!
And… we created our first Christmas cards, using the beautiful painting made by Malcolm Lall, a participant on the summer project at HMP Lewes. Lets just say 2015 was the year where there was a First for everything!
Fast forward to 2016 and I must say, we’ve come into it with quite a bang. One of our aims is to have 10 projects lined up around the country. Exciting times! Too much hidden talent out there to be wasted so why not extend our reach to help better the lives of as many people as we can through music. As well as these projects taking place we have bits and bobs going on in between. The latest album from HMP The Mount will be ready and available from Feb. And of course, the anticipated debut album from HMP Bronzefield will be arriving soon. I think it is about time female voices were heard don’t you?! Giving a different perspective / outlook on life outside and behind bars… So watch this space!!!
As it’s a new year, we wanted to bring forth new ideas, creativity and embrace our overall theme of life and vibrancy, that will reflect the lives of inmates trying to break through in a hostile environment but demonstrate this through art….So what’s the best way to represent this on each album cover? Well, by having an amazing photographer embark on this journey with us, capturing the organic existence of life in more ways than one and allowing the art to tell the story.
We have literally searched the world to find photography that captures this, art that speaks volumes. Retelling a story of what once was, what is and what will become! After some perseverance, we were fortunate to find and get in contact with a handful of photographers who have that overall scale of uniqueness about them, the art of spectacular nature and we can’t wait to see the end result!…
